Watch out Fast and the Furious, Need For Speed is coming soon…

26th September 2013 | BY Adam

Over the top stunts, 18-speed gear boxes, scantily clad girls and more nitrous than a Spring Break party in Cancun - it can only be one film series. The Fast and the Furious franchise has had a place in the hearts of boy racers and men old enough to know better since the first film hit the screens way back in 2001.

But after twelve years at the top of the podium there’s a new challenger looking to steal the F&F thunder and it comes with a racing heritage of it’s own.

Hit the jump for the trailer…

Need for Speed is the most successful racing video game series in the world, and one of the most successful video game franchises of all time with over 140 million copies sold. The first game was released in 1997 and since then a further twenty-one follow up variants have been launched.

In the trailer we see some solid, real life driving skill being shown which is a refreshing change from the easy unexciting CGI route. One shot that piqued our interest is the drifting Mustang being chased by the cop car, which had we (expertly) directed the film would have been piloted by Vaughn Gittin jr without a doubt.

Putting the NFS name to a Hollywood blockbuster is a brave move, especially when you’re directly competing against something as well established as the Fast and the Furious. That said, Jason Bourne successfully muscled James Bond aside and with the huge fan base that NFS has, providing they don’t disappoint with the film we can see them doing the same.

Will you be going to see it? Let us know in the comments below.
