i like that ALOT :D

is it the same kit as the GTI ?

it's got loads on it, creature comforts etc..

i think it migh have a few more trick bits than the gti but i'm not sure what's standard on the gti. the gti has different exterior too i think.

Where / how much etc?

Is your car mapped ATM?

Twed207
02-07-2010, 11:13 AM
got if from eGay mate. 65 squids... bargain! lol

got it from 1stcarParts store Here (http://stores.ebay.co.uk/1stCarParts) or they've got a website too, http://www.toyosports.co.uk/ .

my mate told me to get all the silicone and what not from Demon Motorsports (http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/demon-motorsport&ssPageName=STRK:MEFSX:SELLERID)... he's used them on all his big jap cars...

not mapped yet, hopefully the FMIC wont upset the car! lol

Looks great...
How do you plan on running the piping?
Be sure to take plenty of pics :-D
I believe I had a post somewhere on how to fit the twinpass Forge one...
Maybe you could post your how-to with that and have the moderators make it a sticky, as with the 2.0 FMIC topic :-D

Twed207
06-07-2010, 10:15 PM
yep, will be doing a how to with a mate who loves to tinker with cars! lol

there's a lad on 207oc from egypt who's done an install like this and it all went in! run the pipe from the turbo between the radiator and
IC and the pipe after the IC will be mich like the forge one... :)

sparco
06-07-2010, 10:33 PM
That's really not the most ideal setup...
I've seen it...
If I were you, I would remove the turbo and turn the housing, so the compressor exhaust faces sort of downward towards the radiator...
Then start from there and make it the shortest possible way in terms of piping, not to increase lag and boostloses.
The GTi owners need to have the long piping, as they can not turn their housing, due to the wastgate actuator (I have that problem as well), but on a VNT it's a matter of loosening some bolts on the compressor side and turn the housing downwards

Twed207
06-07-2010, 10:39 PM
#goes and looks at turbo...# lol

sparco
06-07-2010, 10:47 PM
You should be able to find some how-to's on turning the housings on the web somewhere
If you would ever be interested in an upgrade the GT1752VB turbos, would allready have the compressor exhaust facing downward in relation to our engines...
You could look it up on TRW Performance, they do a kit for the 1.6HDI110 with turbo, FMIC, Decat and all of the piping :D

Twed207
06-07-2010, 11:17 PM
bugger me, it's wet outside! lol

i see what you mean mate... there's 4 bolts on the back of the compressor housing, loosen them off and spin it round. :) . there seems to be alot of other pipework in the way, oilways and a big radiator pipe and the cooling fan too.

i'll have another look when it's light and dry tomorrow with a mate and see what we can do... :)

Twed207

remove the turbo... you're having a larf? lol. will it not be just as easy to take the compressor housing off at turn it 180 degrees? dont happen to have any pics or links to a setup like this do you too bud? i've seen the one on TWR performance but mine has the fan on the back of the rad making space very tight...

ta. :)

sparco
07-07-2010, 06:39 AM
Because space is so tight, it should be better to remove the turbo, you could try it with the turbo in place, it could just work like that as well
It'll take some effort and will most likely take you a bit longer and be a bit more costly, but you will have more benefits from a setup like that :D

Twed207
07-07-2010, 07:34 AM
because space is tight, it will be easier just taking the compressor housing off! lol. although the last bolt under the turbo may be a bit of a pig... lol.

and TBH, i cant see it being any more expensive, just more time consuming but i'd need to get a custom peice of pipe to bolt on to the turbo compressor to make it a bit like the GT1752V turbo... :)

sparco
07-07-2010, 10:37 AM

some silicone bends and mikalor clamps came today, put them together and it kinda looks like this... you get the idea on where the pipes will be going... :)

http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg276/twed206/207/IMG_2118.jpg

i hope it will all fit in place like as the reducer and 180 bend on the other end make it a bit long like but i'm currently looking into the sujested route that sparco mentioned (spin the compressor housing and run the pipe behind the radiator). :)

Twed207

Got a few more parts for the IC install today. a joiner for the reducer and 180 pipe, a 90 degree bend and some more mikalor clamps.

also got some black sheet vinyl to do a wee styling mod. which went retardedly wrong!

was gonna put it on the roof and spoiler to give it the black roof look to go along with the glass... but i ended up with only a black spoiler... lol

got a couple more bits for the FMIC install... just waiting on the IC sprayer kit now. :)

that's the general idea of it but the long pipe will be cut shorter and pointing up the way where the red pipe at the top is. i hope it will all go in! lol

Got my intercooler spray kit today. :)

Basicly, it's a universal windscreen washer with some sprayers! Lol. Done a test with it in the sink and it's got a fair good spray with one nozzle so 2 might be abit poo lol.

http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg276/twed206/40f20112.jpg

Excuse the iPhone quality picture lol.

One thing I didn't realise with this is physics! You've got to have the nozzles at the same height or higher than the bottle so it doesn't leak out! Gonna have to put some thought into this one and maybe fabricate something... Lol

jammapic
04-08-2010, 09:29 PM
Or put some kind of pressure valve in...

05-08-2010, 08:35 AM
Didn't know you could buy the kit !

I've done this the but the poor mans way

Because I've removed rear wiper I just tapped into the rear washer pipe And put a mist jet on

Can't wait to see it all fitted and see the gains

b47t0n
05-08-2010, 08:37 AM

was the sprayer lower than the tank and it kept leaking out when not in use?

Yep. Filled water bottle and it just kept pouring out the jet

True. I have an IC bought ready to fit. Not feeling arsed to take the bumper off to measure up/mark out brackets then take it off again to fit then find out I didn't get enough of the right shape hoses... You get the picture. My IC only has bosses for fixing on the bottom though :?

Twed207

pics to follow when i make sure the boost pipes dont explode cos i forgot to put the plastic rings back on them! lol

well, it started off like so...
http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg276/twed206/207/IMG_2355.jpg

Max and Hurley wanted to watch... lol
http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg276/twed206/207/IMG_2358.jpg

got the bumper off after faffing on for about an hour and a half...
http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg276/twed206/207/IMG_2356.jpg

baby intercooler...
http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg276/twed206/207/IMG_2357.jpg

what a mess...
http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg276/twed206/207/IMG_2360.jpg

testing 1 pipe...
http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg276/twed206/207/IMG_2359.jpg

then after that, i got miffed! lol. put the IC into place and tried some pipes and put the bumper on and it didnt fit... all the pipes were in the way, so moved it down a bit under the slam bar and then the pipes wouldnt reach! so turned it upside down and tried it, one pipe reached but the other didn't!! double  lol. so tried mounting it but not plumbing it in and ****ed a drill bit trying to drill through the slam bar!!!

10:30 came and was pitch black so decided to put it all back together again and get some more parts tomorrow! lol

coste1l
06-08-2010, 08:46 AM
keep trying buddy! mine took 2 weeks to design but only 4hrs or so to fit, i stripped it off and replaced all the clips with mikalor in 2hrs on tuesday :) your 2nd attempt will go much quicker!

edk
06-08-2010, 09:05 AM
Yeah not to worry you'll get there. Like coste1l I too had trouble to first time then nailed it and got the design spot on second time round.

yeah, DIY ghetto-fab FTW! lol

yeah, i'm getting some more tubing so it should all go together better (2" 1 meter long from my local steel works for a fiver. a fiver! lol). gonna try again tonight if it's dry. :) might have to mod the bumper though... :(

06-08-2010, 09:40 AM

Twed207
07-08-2010, 05:40 PM
lol. it's all piped in and what not, but the bumper wont go on now... the fog light is in the way. :(

gonna drill another hole in the bracket and move the IC back a bit. :)

b47t0n
07-08-2010, 07:45 PM
=P~ could be worse nice to know it's only a case of drilling the bracket

Will all be worth it in the end

Twed207
08-08-2010, 07:41 AM
What a bitch that was to get it all put in! Fog light was in the way, then the bumper grill! Lol

Yeh, got it all back together, had to force the bumper on cos it was a squeeze and a half. Too it out for a test run and was ok, gave it some more boost and there was a loud WWWEEEEEEEE. boost leakage :( so it's got to come off again and check all the fittings and use more tape... Lol.

Pics later.

Oh yeah... It took me 12 b@####d hours to do it! Most of which was trying to get the intercooler back enough and cutting the bumper and undertray that the bumper screws onto!

Grrrrr lol

Twed207
08-08-2010, 08:40 PM
i feel for you JP! i really do! now i know why i'm not a mechanic! lol.

anyway, here we go... the pics. lol

had the bumper off in minutes cos i didn't put it back on properly... lol
http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg276/twed206/207/IMG_2362.jpg

start pulling the stock IC out.
http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg276/twed206/207/IMG_2361.jpg

IC out. (again...)
http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg276/twed206/207/IMG_2364.jpg

then a grey cloud came along and started spitting abit so quick as a flash, i put the zeebo up.
http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg276/twed206/207/IMG_2363.jpg
i know it looks shoddy, i put the cover on updide down.

FMIC mounted.
http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg276/twed206/207/IMG_2365.jpg

and it all went pear shaped for here on in. :(
offered the bumper up and it didn't line up.
http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg276/twed206/207/IMG_2366.jpg

started cutting the bumper up with my sonic-crafter (kind of like a grinder)
http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg276/twed206/207/IMG_2367.jpg

then started putting the pipework together. i used a big pair of grips to put a flare on the ends of the pipes.
http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg276/twed206/207/IMG_2368.jpg

then wrapped them in PTFE/white tape.
http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg276/twed206/207/IMG_2369.jpg

then put them together.
http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg276/twed206/207/IMG_2371.jpg

and fitted them.
http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg276/twed206/207/IMG_2372.jpg

http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg276/twed206/207/IMG_2373.jpg

http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg276/twed206/207/IMG_2374.jpg

after that. is when i started losing hours of the day (and years off my life... lol). the bumper refused to go on so i cut more off the bumper, more off the brackets, adding and removing washers onto the bolt that holds the IC onto the bracket.

lots of plastic cuttings from the bumper and under tray (thats not even half of it!)
http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg276/twed206/207/IMG_2376.jpg

and cutting me lol. lucky i wasnt using a grinder!
http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg276/twed206/207/IMG_2375.jpg

got pissed off and me and my dad forced the bumper on and put it all back together. the IC and pipes are pushing the grill out abit and it looks ****. lol
http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg276/twed206/207/IMG_2378.jpg

and that's that! there's a bit of a hissing squeal when on full boost but holding constant boost and giving it some good spikes, it didn't pop off, and it still goes well so no performance lost (TBH, i think it's quicker. but that might just be me... lol).

if i've got time next weekend, i'll take it to bits again and try turning it upside down and if it means cutting a chunk out of the slam bar, then so be it! lol

xx

I'd never thought of either trying to flare the pipes, or using PTFE!

We blobbed some weld round the end of the pipes on mine.

I see you used B&Q brackets to hold it on.. I used those to make the brackets for my 205 GTI radiator!

Seems somewhat logical to me...
The remaaper will most likely alter the suspected values in the ecu mapping, but the ecu will remain dependent on those read for good functioning...
If you were to leave them diconnected, it could very well give you an errorcode, as the ecu will recognize this as a malfunctioning unit

the pipe that popped off was the one that was leaking before and it was the tape that slipped off the pipe. took it off and butchered it a bit so that the ends of it are more flared... also tightened all the clamps some more and bust one  , got some big hose clamps from B&Q and put them on as well as re-inforcement. lol

I admire your work.

However, I think the intercooler is too big, bigger isn't always better. If you look at the design of it, the top half won't be aiding cooling much at all (both inlet and outlet are at the bottom and the air will take the easiest route across the bottom).

What size is it??

I think a smaller cooler would be better for flow and wouldn't get in the way of the radiator as much so water cooling wouldn't be as much of an issue.

Have you got any vids of the spray bar in action?? You need a fine mist for this to be effective and from what I gather your using washer jets?! What pump are you using?? You need a lot of pressure for a fine mist.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wyjUw0TAYNs

Thats the kind of spray you need for this to work.

thanks bud. yeh, i know what you mean about the FMIC. :)

i've actually got it upside down so that the in/outlet are in direct airflow and the larger part of it (top) is behind the number plate. i've put the intercooler piping through the hole where the original one was so most of the air is escaping through that, instead of going through the radiator. i think if i block that big gaping hole off, i'll get better cooling. :) the IC is about 550x225x64mm. the company i got it from does have smaller ones on their site but the reason i got this one is cos i seen another member on 207oc from egypt put this size on his GTi and had no bother at all with it but i think he worked at a tuning garage so had access to lots of pipes and welding kit and what not. :)

the spray kit isn't wired in yet but i did test it in the kitchen sink and it is more like a washer jet type spray, not a mist spray. the motor is fairly small so the pressure will be abit low. i dont know i'f i'm going to keep it TBH...

27-09-2010, 01:38 PM
for real :o bad flow in that intercooler :?
Would like to get mine checked, but being an official Forge one, it shouldn't be that bad I guess [-o<
though the THP run less pressure :|

I also used to have flutter in mine from time to time, but after relocating my intakepipe it stopped :P

BTW, as I was pretty sure my IC is not the limiting flow to cause the flutter, all I could think of was the exit at the compressor housing, with the resonatorrestrictorthingy
Next up, some angle grinding

Twed207
27-09-2010, 07:10 PM
yeah, i dont know how bad they really are but he propper slagged them off like! i thought mine would be fairly good flowing as the inside bits (cores?) look bigger than the standard one does.

any way, the magic! left the house at 6am, got fuel at carlisle and reset the trip meter. stopped at scoth corner them bommed down the A1. landed just before half 9 and the car done 61MPG on the way down. :)

put my car on at 10am and done a base run.

http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg276/twed206/207/IMG_2596.jpg

for some reason i had a wee bit more than i should... perhaps the FMIC actually doing it's job lol, or the dyno...

anywhoo. paul fiddled on with the file, said there was like, 15 maps on the file and it's all torque based so lots of limits in the file. all well over my head! took him 4 or 5 alterations to get the final result and it took him a good 3 hours to do it all. on the last run after asking for a bit more poke than 130, i gave a chilish grin in approval!

http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg276/twed206/207/IMG_2601.jpg

peak is 134hp and about 225ft/lb. i'm fairly happy with the results! a load smoother and as you can see from the graph, there's bigger gains in other parts of the map other than just peak power. he mapped it to that as we dont know how much the car is smoking because of the DPF! . might even have 1 or 2 more hp's as the DPF was getting blocked and tried to regerate on the dyno. pmsl. the return trip was 60MPG with some motorway blasts and a regen. :)

and finally, the real reason i went to RS Tuning..!

I've got the HDi90 on mine. The DMF seemed good when it was time for a clutch, but I didn't want to have it die soon after to pay for labour again, and as you say the DMF is expensive (about 450 iirc). With the paddle clutch as well it does need you to be more careful changing gear (the flywheel is lighter), and setting off/crawling traffic can easily make you look a ****. It revs much more freely but I'd be interested to see how much torque I lost.

got it in a group buy on info mate. just 1 sheet and it should do both of the lights but you need to use it carefully as there's only just enought to do 2.

google fly eyes kit and you should be able to get it off their site. :)

Good work mate!
But the result don't reward the modification.
134bhp could be done only with remap and stock parts...

Why didn't you use an intercooler with in- and outlet on one side?
Then you won't have the loooong pipe.
Something like this: http://www.ricci-concept.com/images/int ... 01.8Ts.jpg (http://www.ricci-concept.com/images/intercooler%20pics/OCTAVIA%201.8Ts.jpg)
You do not need a very huge core size. 150bhp is possible with a smaller IC as well.
I used for my 2.0l HDI a Forge universal IC (Type 09) with core size 500 x 60 x 175 (19.69 x 2.37 x 6.89).

With the huge IC and long pipes do you have more lag or turbo spoolup time?

got if from eGay mate. 65 squids... bargain! lol

got it from 1stcarParts store Here (http://stores.ebay.co.uk/1stCarParts) or they've got a website too, http://www.toyosports.co.uk/ .

my mate told me to get all the silicone and what not from Demon Motorsports (http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/demon-motorsport&ssPageName=STRK:MEFSX:SELLERID)... he's used them on all his big jap cars...

not mapped yet, hopefully the FMIC wont upset the car! lol

No good for my car that site doesnt cater for Mits Lancer Diesels. Gutted

usually find that you have to do all things custom mate! universal intercooler and route it yourself.

VAG stuff is usually the only cars you can get stuff off the shelf for. :(

The car or IC? I do like what you have done to it! Never really been a fan of the 207's! But after seeing a few on here, they are nice little cars!
